For some patients, the most stressful part about visiting their dentist nearby is when it comes to paying for treatments at the end of their appointment. At Healthy Smiles Dental Care, we aim to erase this concern by helping our patients better understand their insurance coverage and by offering different easy payment options. Below, we’ve offered some information to give you a better understanding of your dental insurance plan. It’s important to keep in mind that every plan varies, so to get the exact details of yours, it’s a good idea to call your provider directly.
Dental insurance plans focus on preventing oral health problems from developing, keeping you from needing invasive, costly procedures. That’s why they cover a majority, if not all of the cost of routine treatments, like cavity fillings and checkups and cleanings. Each plan also features a few key components. These include an annual maximum, which is the capped-off allowance for treatment, a premium, which is the monthly or annual cost you pay for benefits, and deductibles, which are amounts set by your dental insurance provider that you’ll need to be prepared to pay at each of your appointments.
Most dental insurance plans utilize a 100-80-50 coverage structure. Basically, what this means is that they cover 100 percent of preventive care like checkups and cleanings, 80 percent of basic treatments like cavity fillings, and 50 percent of more invasive procedures like tooth extractions. Because every dental insurance plan can vary, it’s a good idea to contact your insurance provider before scheduling an appointment for a treatment to learn how much of it they’ll cover. If you have questions or would like some help doing this, don’t hesitate to speak with one of our friendly staff members.
